1000 years of Basler Münster

The 1.00 franc stamp commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the Basel Minster focuses on Henry II. As the financial supporter and namesake of the Heinrichs-Münster, he is depicted with the church in his hand as a gift. This symbolic gesture is at the centre of the design.
The second level shows a reconstruction of the Romanesque facade of the cathedral and, in the background, the towers of Basel Cathedral, as they still form part of the Basel skyline today. They illustrate that the Heinrichs-Münster was a different building at a different time.
